Enjoy flower arrangement with Higashiyama tour

Visit the master of graceful Japanese style flower arrangement and enjoy the lesson. Japanese flower arrangement creates a harmony of linear construction, rhythm and color. After lunch, we spend half day walking tour of surrounding area visiting Ginkakuji (Silver pavilion), Honen-in temple (quiet secluded temple with carefully raked garden) and browsing souvenirs along the philosopher’s path. Alternatively we can visit to Daitokuji (a 16th Century Zen temple with rock/sand garden)

●2 day intensive flower arrangement class can be arranged for those wishing to take the skills back to the home countries and arrange flowers in their own homes.

Machiya(traditional wooden town house) visit & excursion to Arashiyama

Visit one of machiya (Kyoto’ traditional town house) available exclusively for WAK customers. Meet with the owner who will explain about the history, each room, and how he works to preserve the house with lattice work, etc. Take the train to go to Arashiyama, to enter Tenryu-ji temple (famous for the beautiful landscape garden) and to walk through atmospheric bamboo grove and view Katsuragawa river from Togetsukyo bridge. You can try “Ashiyu” footbath after along walk.

Tea with Maiko followed by Gion area and antique shop walk

Walk around the Gion area streets (Kyoto’s traditional entertainment area) lined with Machiya-traditional wooden town houses and green willows and cherry blossoms (filmed for “memoirs of Geisha”) and many antique shops visited by many world celebrities (Do not expect flea market prices!).Then visit one of the teahouses to meet with Maiko (kimono clad female entertainer usually serving at ryotei-high class Japanese style restaurants) who may answer to your questions. Maiko can also teach you how to be entertained.

Try Maiko kimono on and walk about the Gion area

If you ever want to try Maiko or Samurai costume/wig on, here is the course for you.
Our experts can help you try the costume and see how you look. Then take a photo which will be given to you as your memory. If you wish, we can take you out in the streets with the costume and enjoy being stared like never before! Afterwards, walk though the Gion (Kyoto’s traditional entertainment area), then through to Kodai-ji (with Beautiful little bamboo groves) and Entoku-in.

●“Becoming Maiko/Samurai” whole process takes about an hour including full-make ups and kimono/wig wearing then a studio photo.

Visit to a temple not open to public

WAK’s continuing close relationship with temples makes it possible for WAK visitors to enter temples not normally open to the public. Away from a huge traffic of tourists, you can meet with one of the monks who can tell you about the temple over a cup of Japanese tea and traditional sweets in a tranquil atmosphere. This course is for those who want to learn more than guidebook information. The temple visits normally takes 1.5 to 2 hours. The sightseeing area after the temple visit depends on the location of the temple. Zazen (silent meditation) can also be arranged with enough advance notice.

■Price per person: 25000 yen based on 2 people (excluding Zazen)

Japanese dish cooking at a Machiya & Arashiyama sightseeing

Visit one of the machiya (traditional wooden townhouse) in the center of Kyoto called Chion-sha and meet with the house owner who will show you around the house. Then try cooking some typical Japanese home dishes. After filling your stomach with tasty lunch, explore Kyoto city and go to your favourite destination. Arashiyama (see the above No. 2 for brief explanation) is recommended but our guide can take you to the places you wish to visit.

●Chion-sha was famous for trading special clothing for temple monks and shrine reverend. The house is currently open exclusively for WAK customers. (The cost for this course includes the lunch. An alternative machiya or alternative date may be suggested if Chion-sha is already booked on you intended date.)

■Price per person: 26000 yen based on 2 people (including Lunch)

Learn how to make Sushi and tour around The Gion/Nishiki area

Why not try making your own nigiri-zushi (oval shaped rice ball with tasted with vinegar and sugar topped with slices of raw fish)! A sushi chef is willing to help you! Tour around the Gion area (famous for Maiko- traditional female party companion clad in brocade kimono.) and/or Nishiki covered market will also be included.

●Sushi making starts at 1300hrs. This course includes lunch.

■Price per person: 32000 yen based on 2 people (including Sushi lunch)

From 2 days prior to the tour: 60%
Previous day: 80%
On the day of the tour: 100%
