Just 4 km south of the famous Fushimi Inari Taisha lies Fushimi — a historic castle town originally developed around Momoyama Castle, built by Toyotomi Hideyoshi. While located within Kyoto City, Fushimi offers a peaceful atmosphere away from crowded tourist areas. Blessed with exceptionally pure underground water, the district is home to many traditional sake breweries and retains an authentic, refined charm.
One of Fushimi’s unique features is its vibrant network of local SHOTENGAI (shopping streets) that continue to support everyday community life. On this immersive cultural tour, you will explore three traditional SHOTENGAI: Fushimi Otesuji/Nayamachi/Ryoma-dori.
You will visit locally loved specialty shops rarely entered by ordinary tourists, including: Traditional kimono store/ Yuino (engagement gift) specialty shop/ Bakery/ Matcha shop/ Sake shop/Japanese confectionery store/ Stationery shop. At the yuino shop, you will learn about traditional Japanese life-cycle ceremonies and enjoy a hands-on hikkō (brush calligraphy writing) experience — a unique opportunity to practice formal Japanese writing customs.
This tour offers an authentic glimpse into Kyoto’s living culture through meaningful interactions with local shop owners and long-established family businesses.

- 9:30 AM/ 1:30 PM – Meet in front of the ticket gates at Keihan Line Shijo Station
- 10:00 AM/ 2:00 PM – Arrive at Keihan Line Chushojima Station
- 10:30 AM/ 2:30 PM – Explore Ryoma-dori, Nayamachi, and Fushimi Otesuji Shopping Streets
- 1:00 PM / 5:00 PM– Tour ends at Fushimi Otesuji Shopping Street
