Washinkan（Higashiyama-Shichijo）

The building was originally an over 130 year-old machiya, traditional Japanese townhouse. Due to its weak resistance to earthquakes, the building was dismantled and rebuilt using the original pillars and beams. Consequantly, it transformed into so-called hybrid kyo-machiya with wheelchair-friendly facilities.

Directions	train：10 min-walk from Keihan Shichijo Stn. Take Kyoto City Bus NO.100, 206 or 208 from Kyoto Stn and get off at Hakubutsukan Sanjusangendo mae Bus stop. 5 min-walk from the Bus stop.
Overview of the building	The Washin-kan’s area is recognized as a historical town, in which there is a huge temple bell, well-known as the trigger of the Battle of Sekigahara in 1600. This battle was the significant event that had caused the beginning of the Edo Era. Japanese old houses remain and the large stone wall of Kyoto National Museum and Houkoku Shrine is preserved as it was at that time. You can enjoy strolling about the town after cultural activities at Washinkan（Higashiyama-Shichijo）. All facilities on the ground floor of Washinkan（Higashiyama-Shichijo） are available to people with disabilities and the stairs were remodeled and a chairlift was installed. Also, there are five restrooms including one wheelchair accessible restroom. We welcome and support the participation of those with disabilities.
