Simple Kintsugi (Private)

Would you like to experience Kintsugi, Japan’s traditional art of restoration?
Kintsugi is a unique Japanese technique in which broken ceramics are repaired with lacquer and decorated with gold. Its philosophy embraces the idea that “because it is broken, it is beautiful.” Deeply connected to the culture of the tea ceremony, it also reflects the aesthetic values associated with figures such as Sen no Rikyū.
In this program, you will learn about the history and cultural background of Kintsugi, and you will have the opportunity to carry out part of the restoration process yourself.
Instead of traditional lacquer, we use synthetic adhesives so that you can complete your piece within the program time.
Please take home your one-of-a-kind creation, carefully finished by your own hands, as a special memory of your trip to Japan.
