A Message from Tea Ceremony Instructor Y

One day, after the program, one of our guests showed me an old photograph. To my surprise, it was a photo of me performing a tea ceremony! It turned out that the guest had participated in a tea ceremony experience at WAK Japan back in 2018.There is no greater joy than welcoming guests back after so many years. This special reunion reminded me once again of the importance of treating every guest with care and sincerity.I am truly grateful for opportunities like this, and I look forward to continuing to create meaningful experiences for our guests.

A Message from Tour Guide K

I recently guided a guest from the UK on our Fushimi Sake Tour. Having just retired, they had finally fulfilled a lifelong dream of visiting Japan. As a child, they became fascinated with Japan after watching the James Bond film *You Only Live Twice*, and ever since then, they had hoped to visit someday. They had also spent time learning about Japan before their trip, making each experience even more meaningful and memorable.
After visiting Fushimi Inari Taisha, we walked through Otesuji Shopping Street. The guest was particularly impressed by the chance to see everyday life in Kyoto beyond the famous tourist attractions. Smiling, they asked, “Is this Kyoto too?” and expressed how much they enjoyed discovering this more local side of the city.Moments like these remind me that travel is not only about visiting famous places, but also about experiencing the authentic atmosphere and daily life of a destination.

A Message from Home Visit Cooking Instructor O

I had the pleasure of welcoming a family of four from the United States to my home for a cooking experience. The group included a married couple, the wife’s sister, and their grandchild, all of whom shared a love of Japanese cuisine. They were not only interested in cooking but also enjoyed exploring the traditional Japanese-style room and the various decorations and ornaments displayed in the house. The husband and grandchild were especially enthusiastic and actively participated in the cooking process. For them, many of the activities were first-time experiences, such as using a katsuobushi shaver to make bonito flakes, grinding sesame seeds with a traditional mortar and pestle, and practicing how to make Japanese rolled omelets (dashimaki tamago) on an IH cooktop. At the end of the meal, they finished every dish and expressed how much they had enjoyed the experience. As they were leaving, we shared warm hugs one by one, a touching moment that I will always remember. It made me truly happy to feel that the spirit of Japanese hospitality had been conveyed through our time together.
